Romit Chowdhury is a Ph.D. scholar at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. He has an M.Phil. in Social Sciences from the same institution and an M.A. in Media and Cultural Studies from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Romit researches contemporary cultures of masculiniy in India, particularly in the contexts of urban sociability, sexual violence, men’s movements, care ethics, and men doing feminist social research. On these issues, he has published in academic journals such as the Economic and Political Weekly, Indian Journal of Gender Studies, Culture, Society & Masculinities, as well as in commercial print media, in forums such as The Hindu, Times of India, and The Statesman. The two theses which he has written – at the M.Phil and M.A. levels – have both received awards for best research in his cohort.
